Overview

OTG Nanny is an on-demand mobile app that allows parents to book available nannies in real time and enables nannies to find and accept gigs instantly. Designed as a two-sided marketplace with a map-based experience, the product prioritizes trust, safety, and ease of use; especially during onboarding, where confidence and clarity are critical for both user groups.

constraints

As a two-sided marketplace, the product needed to balance speed with safety. Parents require strong trust signals and clear confirmation that caregivers are vetted. Nannies need fast onboarding and frictionless payouts. Budget limitations restricted large-scale usability testing. Onboarding flows were complex, requiring identity verification, background checks, CPR, first aid and AED certifications, and detailed profile creation for both caregivers, nannies, and children.

solution

I designed unique onboarding flows for parents and nannies, using multi-step questionnaires optimized for clarity, confidence, and completion. Parents could create profiles for each child, while nannies were guided through verification, background checks, and payout setup.

To reduce friction in longer flows, I incorporated lightweight Lottie micro-animations that explained steps, reinforced progress, and kept users engaged without overwhelming them. I worked closely with the founder, creative director, developers, and project manager to iterate on flows using scrappy, task-based usability testing. Testing revealed moments of hesitation and confusion, which were resolved through clearer language, improved hierarchy, and contextual guidance.

The map-based interface allowed parents to view nearby available nannies in real time, reinforcing immediacy and trust. Simplified cash-out flows ensured nannies could access earnings quickly and confidently.

outcome

User testing showed that both parents and nannies found the app intuitive, trustworthy, and easy to use; particularly praising the emphasis on safety and background checks. The onboarding experience successfully supported account completion despite inherent complexity, establishing a strong foundation for marketplace adoption and long-term user confidence.
